Originally launched in 1972 for the Munich Olympics, the SL-72 was a favourite amongst runners for both training and race use. In a 1975 article, market research found over 16% of people surveyed were running in the model. Given the modern day maximalist running shoes it's wild to consider this is the shoe people were throwing on for a run in the '70s.
This version combines a bold red upper—finished in classic nylon and suede—with delicate crocheted details which bring to mind some earlier work from designer Grace Wales Bonner.
